Spring Hill has a lot of mature, tired landscaping

Spring Hill built out over several decades and much of the landscaping has aged past its design. Overgrown foundation shrubs, bed lines that have blurred into the lawn, and sod that has been patched rather than properly replaced are the three things we see most.

It is also a large, spread-out community with a wide range of lot sizes and conditions. What is right on a quarter-acre in the older grid west of US 19 is different from what makes sense on a larger lot toward the eastern edge.

Sandy soil, limestone, and canopy

Soil here is sand over limestone, sometimes with rock close enough to the surface that it affects planting depth and paver excavation. Where we hit that, wide shallow planting rather than deep holes is the practical adaptation, and we will tell you when a spot simply will not take a large tree.

Established neighborhoods have real oak and pine canopy now, which is the usual reason we get called about failing sod. Floratam needs six or more hours of direct sun. Under canopy, Bitter Blue or Empire Zoysia is the realistic choice.

Hernando County runs its own watering restrictions and schedules separate from Pasco and Pinellas, including provisions for newly installed sod during establishment. We go over the current schedule with you when we install so the new sod actually gets the water it needs in the first two weeks.
